Our Musicians

  • Front and Main

Front & Main is a Soul Rock band based out of the crossroads of the Ithaca, Syracuse, and Binghamton, NY, music scenes. Collaborators Michael Wu (guitar, vocals), and Paul Shotwell (vocals), have gathered a slew of A-list musicians from across the region to bring their original compositions to life. Their songs range in influence from across the rock spectrum: ballads and upbeat rockers taking inspiration from multiple artists from classic rock to modern rock - all overlaid with Shotwell’s smoky, soulful vocals. At Maple Shade Hootenanny, Wu and Shotwell will be joined onstage by Mary Tewksbury (guitar, vocals), Brian Tyneway (guitar), Jacob Kurtz (bass), Samuel B Lupowitz (keyboards, vocals), and Al Miele (drums).

Friends, it is no small thing to witness such a powerful, massive musical performance up close. Front & Main’s show at Maple Shade Hootenanny will be truly epic, so please come early, and ready to boogie.

  • Sun Dogs

Sun Dogs is composed of Joe Kollar (guitar, vocals) of Driftwood, Pete Ruttle (dobro, harmonica), and Bowman Townsend (drum kit, percussion) of the Black Lillies. The group plays a variety of mostly original Americana/Roots tunes with some choice covers to round out their high-energy set. Hilariously, Kollar explained that Sun Dogs “...happily do not have any social media or recorded music, making (our) live performance the only way to experience and enjoy (our) sound.” We here at Maple Shade Hootenanny suggest that you collect your own footage of Sun Dogs, then enjoy it for years to come, and share it with others, generously.

  • LoveStoned

LoveStoned is a signature, soulful group of unique individuals, coming together to offer listeners “...a taste of the new school with that old soul feel.” The groove-intensive trio of Nicco (cajon, djembe), Yasha (guitar, vocals), and Carmela (vocals, guitar) explained that they are “...all about getting high off the love that always has, and always will, exist between us all as human beings.” Through their experiences, expressed through word and song, LoveStoned does their best to bring us all closer to that infinite love.

  • The College Farm

The College Farm, known to be the world’s foremost purveyors of "neo-regionalist folk-rock fury," are also artisans of songs of rural wonderment: ghost stories, lost legends, love songs for a once and future land. Blazing folk-rock played with power and passion. Rising from the hardscrabble heights of the Western Catskills and orchard lands hard up against the Helderberg, The College Farm has been doing it big for more than two decades, and features favorite local boys Matthew Pelletier, and Andrew Pelletier, with Josh Herzog, and Christopher Dukes.

  • Wu-Twang

Wu-Twang, the band name, at face value, seems completely derivative (bro), but probably fun - and that’s entirely on purpose. The five-piece band from Binghamton plays your favorite new country (Luke Bryan, Morgan Wallen, HARDY, Luke Combs, Dierks Bentley), and some pop rock favorites, too: all covers, all party music, all fun. Wu-Twang is composed of notable, reformed metal, and aggressive music merchants (Shawn Swartwood and Bill VanDusen from Dropclutch, Josh Skellet from FLAW, and Darek Kotas from Ruination), and Delaware Academy Bulldog Todd Russell.

Maple Shade Hootenanny patrons are encouraged to get up close, sing along, and dance around during Wu-Twang’s set, during which time the consumption of adult beverages will also be encouraged (as applicable).

    “SINGALONG SONGS” CHILDREN’S MUSIC BIO:

Robert Kennedy has been a children’s music educator for nearly 30 years. He is certified in the Kodaly Method of teaching – which utilizes traditional and folk songs to perform and enjoy music through nursery rhymes, composed music improvisation, singing, instrumental, and movement activities. Robert is also well-versed in the techniques of Music Therapy, which he often incorporates into his music sessions. He plays multiple instruments such as guitar, banjo, ukulele, bass and harmonica. His goal has been to use music to help children understand and connect to the world that surrounds them.

Robert currently teaches music appreciation at the Gillen Brewer School in Manhattan. Gillen Brewer is a family-oriented, 12-month, special education program for children ages 2.8 to 10 years old who have a wide variety of language-based and non-verbal learning disabilities.

Robert also has four years of experience at Fieldston Outdoors located in Riverdale (Bronx), New York. Fieldston Outdoors is a summer day camp, which “fosters self-awareness, concern for others, and the deep satisfaction of connecting with nature.” During his time there, Robert served as the music counselor and leader of the “Quad” (a group of singers and musicians who played for the entire camp at the end of every day). The focus of the song repertoire was nature, environment, and good old fashioned camp singalongs and movement activities. He also led songs at the entire camp’s morning meeting called a “Council” where folk stories were told and acted out to raise awareness of the Hudson River, the environment, history and other cultures.
